Fantastic at Forty

Think dinner theater is something reserved for old fogies who are too busy with their liver and onions to even notice the folks working the boards? Well think again, because the Yale Cabaret (217 Park Street) is anything but stodgy! In fact, at forty, the Yale Cabaret is pretty fabulous!

Founded in 1968, the Yale Cabaret is where Yale School of Drama graduate students produce their passion projects and stretch their creative talents. Since its opening season, more than 1,200 Drama School students have worked in small theater, including award-winning actors Patricia Clarkson, Tony Shalhoub and noted playwrights Christopher Durang and Wendy Wasserstein.

Those in the know understand that the Cabaret is the place to see work you can’t see anywhere else. Students are encouraged to operate outside their academic disciplines (a director might write, a stage manager might act), resulting in unique collaborations and innovative, unforgettable productions. For longtime fans of the (literally) underground theater, the 40th Anniversary season at the Cabaret is bound to be the best yet. Here’s a taste of this season’s offerings, including some world premieres:
