New Haven is home to a remarkable number of outstanding museums for a city of its size (roughly 123,000). We offer everything from Vincent Van Gogh's famous painting The Night Cafe on permanent display at the Yale University Art Gallery to Egyptian mummies at the Peabody Museum of Natural History and world-renowned paintings from UK artists at the Yale Center for British Art. We still have room for budding artist's work on display at Artspace.
Artspace - Center for Contemporary Art - features rotating exhibitions of contemporary art in all media and a permanent collection of affordable works on paper by local and regional artists. untitled(space) gallery presents new work by both emerging and mid career artists with an emphasis on works-in-progress, interactive work, and site-specific work. Children's Museum - A magical place for children, their families and teachers, the museum is arts and literacy-based with a unique set of murals and hands-on exhibits including a pint-sized post office, a construction site and the great, green room from the childhood classic, Goodnight Moon. The building also houses Creating Curriculum, a child care provider training course. The Children's Museum is located at 22 Wall Street, New Haven, CT 06511. Admission $5.

Knights of Columbus Museum - Explore the museum that USA Today calls a "top ranked U.S. museum with religious themes." The museum is dedicated to the acquisition, reservation,interpretation, and exhibition of materials relevant to the history and activities of the Knights of Columbus. Admission free.

New Haven Museum and Historical Society - Discover more than three centuries of New Haven's diverse history in the museum's four permanent galleries (devoted to topics in New Haven history) and two temporary galleries that display specially themed exhibitions. Peabody Museum - From Egyptian mummies to saber-toothed cats to the once mighty dinosaurs - you can find it all at the Peabody Museum of Natural History! Come learn about some of the 11+ million specimens and objects held by the museum. Not convinced? The Peabody boasts eleven dioramas, painted by master artists J. Perry Wilson and Francis Lee Jaques. Each is a unique blend of art and science. And don’t miss our other exhibits on minerals and meteorites, primates and mammals, and fossil plants. Come explore!

Yale Center for British Art - Come browse the largest and most comprehensive collection of British art outside the United Kingdom. The collection of paintings‚ sculpture‚ drawings‚ prints‚ rare books‚ and manuscripts reflects the development of British art‚ life‚ and thought from the Elizabethan period onward. The Center offers a year-round schedule of exhibitions and educational programs‚ including films‚ concerts‚ lectures‚ tours‚ and special events.

Yale University Art Gallery - The Yale University Art Gallery's permanent collection includes Vincent Van Gogh's painting "The Night Cafe" and over 185,000 other works, organized into ten curatorial areas. Selections from each department are featured here. Brief informative texts offer a curatorial perspective for each of the works, many of which are now on view in the museum's Swartwout building.
