How we do what we do

How we do what we do: The Town Green Special Services District is a program of self-help through self-taxation. Within the district, there are approximately 390 taxable properties whose owners voted to pool their resources to improve the environment for residences, businesses and visitors. They agreed to contribute the equivalent of 1.85 mils in additional property tax. By establishing and and funding the Town Green District, the tax dollars generated by the central city are targeted and reinvested directly within our 27 square block district.
In addition, Town Green benefits from the voluntary contributions of the City of New Haven, AT&T, and Yale University. Their financial participation contributes a sizable percentage of our operating budget.
The Town Green District is therefore a partnership between public funds and private initiative. The work we do depends on successful collaborations among contributing businesses, property owners, and city government.
