Win Davis - Director of Operations

Win Davis - Pisces and singleWhere did you come from?
New Haven , Connecticut

Where did you go to school?
University of Vermont , '02

What did you study at school?
History and Psychology (Yes, that means I know what you were thinking... in the past)

How did you end up here? I came to Town Green as a Summer Intern in 2001 and have enjoyed the work ever since.

When did you get here?  May of 2001

What do you do here, anyway?  I'm the Director of Operations. Duties include managing and developing INFONewHaven.com--everything from writing copy & taking photographs to building new site features and answering user questions. I over see our district maintenance and ambassador staffs, manage our civic beautification initiatives and maitenance of our public spaces and coordinate community clean-ups.  Other seasonal projects include: holiday luminaria (1,200+ lit candles on the New Haven Green), holiday lighting (getting 140+ wreaths and giant lit snowflakes up in the air), and anything that sounds like it will involve getting dirty or using power tools.  Succinctly, I aspire to be Angus MacGyver (without the mullet).

Accomplishments: Launch of INFONewHaven.com in 2002, the site has had over 2.3 million page views since launch. Co-creator of the Holiday Luminaria on the Green.  Expansion of Clean Start fee for service maintenance program to State Street.    I was promoted to Director of Operations in December of 2006.

Awards: Business New Haven's 40 under Forty recipient, 2006

Do you serve on any committees? Shoreline Community Chorale Executive Board, Town Green maintenance and hospitality committees, City of New Haven's pedestrian, cyclist & motorist safety task force.

Top 5 things that make your job awesome? Creative problem solving, effecting change in our Downtown environment, photography, lunch, and the creation of new programming and partnerships.

What's your favorite Town Green memory to date?  Moving to our new office at 169 Orange Street was akin to Dickens "A Tale of Two Cities":  it was the best of times and the worst of times. Nobody died, but it took us four months to deal with realtors, architects, contractors and phone vendors. Then we packed, moved and were working again in two days...but now the name outside my office reads "Win Davis -Directorof Operations" instead of "Copy Room." I'm movin' on up.

How about a fun fact?   I've yet to work a day on February 2nd.
