A Spooky Neighborhood

New Haven’s Westville sets its sights on scaring you this Halloween season. Head there if you dare.

Usually known as an arts district, Westville dons a scary reputation this season.

Halloween weekend, Thursday, Oct. 29-Saturday, Oct. 31, Westville offers kid-friendly events as well as a haunted house in Edgewood Park, an outdoor screening of a scary Halloween movie, and a spooky installment of the Arts Council of Greater New Haven’s ListenHere! literary series.

All weekend events sponsored by Westville Village Renaissance Alliance, New Haven Parks & Recreation and A Broken Umbrella Theatre culminate with a thrilling ghost story, Thunderbolt, set in Edgewood Park.

A Broken Umbrella presents, Thunderbolt, which recounts a spin-chilling story of Westville’s own Captain Thunderbolt. Patrons will walk into the tunnel under Edgewood Avenue to witness a tragic tale, based on true events which unfolded nearly 200 years ago (as told by the imaginative actors of Broken Umbrella). Don’t worry if you’re afraid of the dark, shows run in the daytime every hour from 2p-6p (Free, Oct. 31).
