The Genius of Painting: Renaissance and Baroque Masters
Thursday evenings, 5:30pm-7:00pm (Eight sessions: April 15-June 3)

This art history lecture course will focus on several specific artists as a way of discussing the development of trends and techniques born out of the High Renaissance and Mannerist traditions which come together to form the more varied style known as the Baroque. As a counterpart, the development of Dutch genre painting and the appeal of naturalism in art will also be studied. Special attention will be given to the discussion of studio practices, relevant histories and scientific developments, and the evolution of taste in both northern and southern Europe.

Introduction to Calligraphy
Thursday evenings, 6:00pm-8:30pm (Six sessions: March 18-April 22)

This course will offer a basic grounding in the history and practice of Western letterforms. Students will study Roman Capitals as the key to the Foundational and Italic hands and will practice layout and use of color through a series of projects. This course is open to beginning and continuing students.

Take That Camera Out Of The Box!
Saturday, March 20, 10:00am-12:00pm

Not sure where to start? Bring your camera (please have the battery charged) and all the things in the box (the instruction manual, memory card, cables, etc.). Learn about the different settings on your camera, how to get your pictures on your computer and the options you have for printing.

Versatility in Wax: The Basics of Encaustic
Saturday & Sunday, May 1 & May 2, 10:00am-4:00pm each day

Learn the basics of the ancient technique of encaustic painting and some applications for prints and works on paper. In this two-day intensive workshop, we will cover the basic materials and formulas used in encaustic along with safety procedures, preparation of supports and grounds, tools and techniques for fusing, glazes, transparencies, texturizing, layering and scribing, as well as image transfer and collage. Basic materials and equipment are included.
