The CHAPEL WEST SPECIAL SERVICES DISTRICT is an area of the City of New Haven that runs along Chapel Street from York Street to Sherman Avenue, Howe Street from George to Elm Streets, Dwight Street from Chapel Street to George Street,Park Street from Elm to Crown,York Street from Elm to Crown,Crown Street from Park to Howe, and Orchard Street from Chapel Street to George Street. This municipal taxing district was established by City Ordinance and State Statute in 1986. The District is governed by a nine member Board of Commissioners elected from the membership who conduct the business of the District.
The work of Chapel West Special Services District includes daily physical maintenance, institutional outreach, neighborhood stabilization and the completion of Public Improvements. The long-standing relationship that Chapel West has enjoyed with the Hospital of Saint Raphael and Yale University continues to strengthen, and contributions by the various Departments of Mayor John DeStefano Jr’s city administration have been invaluable. We thank you all for your unwavering support.
The District is currently working on a development and marketing plan using assistance provided by the Connecticut Economic Development Fund. It is hoped that the process of creation of the plan will lead to recommendations for future actions that would result in the full development and highest economic use of all properties in the District. Also underway is a voluntary expansion of the District boundaries so that additional blocks on the periphery of the existing District can be kept clean daily to the same high standards that District properties currently enjoy and enjoy the other services the District provides to owners and businesses..
