culture

New Haven is home to many cultural and historical marvels.  Nearly every street in Downtown New Haven offers visitors the opportunity to peruse impressive collections of world and local art, learn about New Haven's deep-rooted history and experience one-of-a-kind performances first hand.

Theaters
New Haven's Shubert, Long Wharf, and Yale Repertory Theaters are renowned for groundbreaking - and often career-making - performances. Meanwhile, a collection of smaller theaters and troupes, including the Elm Shakespeare Company and Yale Cabaret, offer both traditional and cutting-edge performances throughout the year.

Galleries
New Haven has a selection of small galleries displaying photography, paintings, sculpture and much more. If you're looking for a one of a kind piece for your home, office or simply searching for that perfect gift, click through, look around and come on down!

Museums
New Haven is home to a remarkable number of outstanding museums for a city of its size (roughly 123,000). We offer everything from Egyptian mummies at the Peabody Museum of Natural History to world-renowned paintings from  artists at the Yale for British Art, to budding artist's work on display at Artspace.

Music
New Haven has the richest musical life of any city of its size in the country. The New Haven Symphony Orchestra, the fourth oldest symphony orchestra in America, and the Yale School of Music, one of the world's most prestigious schools of music, are at the center of a beehive of musical activity in the city. Rounding out the city's musical offerings are numerous other jazz, folk, classical and rock concerts at various venues including the legendary Toad's Place - "where the legends play".
