No parking bans at this time.
GENERAL INFORMATION - PARKING BANS: In the event of a parking ban, The City’s new blue light system will be activated. Look for flashing blue lights on the top of traffic signs to indiciate when a parking ban is declared on that street. Residents, employers and employees must adhere to the parking ban so that our DPW will be able to clear the streets as soon as possible after a storm.
Things to know when a FULL Parking Ban is Declared
NO Parking Downtown
NO Parking on Posted Snow Routes (see map)
NO Parking within 25 feet of Hydrants, Crosswalks, Corners and Bus Stops. Park on the even side of the street in all other neighborhoods to ensure that streets can be cleared to the curb in anticipation of more snow. See map below.
UNITED ILLUMINATING: With snow and strong winds, power outages may occur. To report a power outage, downed power lines or damaged electrical equipment, call UI at 1-800-7-CALL-UI (1-800-722-5584). If you see someone in imminent danger due to damaged electrical equipment, call 911 first, then report the situation to UI.
SHELTER AND EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE: Please call Connecticut's toll-free Infoline, 211, for information, referrals and other services. You may also contact your local chapter of the Red Cross or United Way, or other community agencies. For emergency situations, as always, call 911.
SIDEWALKS: It is important to clear all sidewalks their full width and to open up street corners if your business is on a corner. This is a responsibility of every property owner and vitality important for pedestrian safety, the disabled and our customers. This is appreciated by the City and we thank you for your commitment on this matter.
- The city’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol will be activated for homeless shelters and overnight warming centers.
- Residents should assist with cleaning the fire hydrant closest to their home, should snow accumulations warrant such clearing
