On January 21, 1784, the State of Connecticut officially approved the city’s charter, giving the Elm City its formal start and setting the stage for everything that’s followed.
From a carefully planned nine-square grid to a reputation for world-famous pizza, groundbreaking ideas, and serious cultural influence, New Haven has never been just one thing. It’s a college town, a food city, an arts hub, and a place where history and creativity continue to collide.
A few fun facts worth celebrating today:
🌳 NHV is home to the first public park in the U.S.
🏟️ The Yale Bowl helped shape modern stadiums.
🍕 And yes, our pizza really is that famous.
