CitySeed: New Haven’s Fall Harvest Hero

Fall has officially landed in New Haven, and if your Thanksgiving table needs a little something extra, CitySeed is the place to start. The local nonprofit runs four farmers markets across the city, bringing together Connecticut’s best growers, bakers, and food makers for a true taste of the season.

“Fall is the most bountiful harvest of the year, when summer and fall crops collide,” says Communications and Outreach Manager Mik Johnson. Market stalls are bursting with peppers, pumpkins, apples, and greens, plus plenty of pies, tarts, and soups that taste like fall in a bowl.

As Thanksgiving approaches, the markets are a one-stop shop for apples, herbs, cheeses, honey, breads, and meats. GCafe, Downright Breads, and Olmo Bagels take preorders for pies and loaves, while farms like Sankow’s Beaver Brook and BOTL Farm save special cuts of meat for the holiday table. Even last-minute shoppers can fill their baskets with fresh produce, jams, and wreaths that double as gifts.

Do not miss Sanctuary Kitchen, CitySeed’s program where immigrants and refugees share their culinary traditions through homemade dishes that change weekly and sell out fast.

Beyond the food, the markets are all about connection. “Even as the weather cools, people still come out for good food, conversation, and a chance to see their neighbors,” says Johnson.

Whether you are picking up local ingredients, chatting with farmers, or just soaking in the fall vibes, CitySeed makes eating local easy, delicious, and worth celebrating. Visit cityseed.org for market updates and vendor spotlights.
