New Haven Night Market
Friday, May 15 from 5PM – 10PM
Ninth Square · Free
If your ideal evening involves a lot of snacks and a little opportunity to try something new, the New Haven Night Market is calling. This isn’t a “walk around and maybe buy a candle” situation, it’s a full-on choose-your-own-adventure.
Before you show up and start asking logistical questions mid-street snack, consider this your cheat sheet. The New Haven Night Market is family and pet friendly, and designed for wandering, and completely free (though you’ll want to budget for the inevitable impulse buy).
Start with the NXTHVN art gallery pop-up, get your portrait drawn (or attempt one yourself), and contribute to our community’s collective vision board. Plus, there’s live mural painting, pottery demos, and screen printing if you’re feeling hands-on.
For the show-offs and the kids with energy to burn, this spring’s iteration of the Night Market will bring a rock climbing wall to the middle of downtown New Haven. If you’re more patches than prowess, the DIY crowd will convene at Strange Ways’ heat press party, cranking out custom buttons and scratch art bookmarks.
To wrap it all up, we’ve got the Mahjong Mania pop-up from Mahjong Haven on the George Street side of Orange, because nothing says “community bonding” like suddenly becoming very competitive over tiles you only sort of understand.
Come down to the Ninth Square at 5PM and if you’re planning to drink, head straight to ID check for a wristband and token, and maybe bring a sweater (someone’s grandma insisted).
Come prepared, come curious, and come a little early – because once it fills up, it really fills up.
