Journey to the Past at the Yale Peabody Museum

We’re celebrating the much-anticipated reopening of Yale Peabody Museum.The Natural History Museum’s first comprehensive renovation since it opened 90 years ago is marked by new welcoming spaces for exhibitions, improved access to museum collections, expanded educational services for students, and greater accessibility throughout the property. The new Peabody features three floors of exhibitions, most notably the Burke Hall of Dinosaurs featuring Rudolph Zallinger’s famous mural, “The Age of Reptiles,” and the Central Gallery featuring giant fossils and rotating exhibitions covering ongoing research at Yale. Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade [2024]

Join us downtown on March 10 for the 182nd Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the largest FREE single-day spectator event in Connecticut. This year’s parade theme is “Céad Míle Fáilte — A Hundred Thousand Welcomes.”  The parade kicks off at 1:30 p.m. and will run for approximately three hours, featuring a range of experiences, rain or shine.

Black History Month 2024

February marks Black History Month, a period of remembrance for the critical figures and events that have shaped our national identity. Within the great umbrella of American Black History, the city of New Haven has several historic pillars of our own. At the New Haven Museum, visitors and locals can explore the history of the Amistad Affair through the exhibit “The Amistad Story: Cinque Lives Here.” The permanent exhibit chronicles the events of the revolt and subsequent legal case, a defining moment in the anti-slavery movement. New Haven Grand Prix 2023

September 15 Connecticut’s most anticipated cycling event returns for its 13th year on September 15, featuring a twilight bike race, a lively street festival featuring the city’s best food vendors, and live music from talented local artists. If you’re racing, don’t forget to stretch. If you’re spectating, the beer garden and Apizza feast open at 4:00 PM.

13th Annual Closer to Free Ride

September 9 Another opportunity to race, this time for a great cause, this race welcomes riders of all levels and fuels necessary research and life preserving care at Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital. The race features five routes ranging in distance, from 10 miles to 100 miles long! Additionally, racers are invited to free ride along their own route either in-person or remotely.

46th Annual Faxon Law New Haven Road Race

September 4 Taking place on Labor Day, the event will welcome racers and walkers alike to five different races: the 20k, the Half Marathon, the 5k, the Half Marathon Relay, and the Kids Fun Run. All of these races begin at the New Haven Green, the Kids Fun Run at 8:10 AM, and all other races at 8:30 AM.

Amistad Freedom Schooner (2023)

August brings the return of the Amistad Freedom Schooner, which will be in port at Long Warf from August 2 – 21, and August 29 – September 5. While in port, the replica of this historic ship will be open for educational tours, teaching visitors about the ship’s creation, the story of the Amistad Rebellion, and the ship’s fate today. The Amistad Freedom Voyage tours are FREE, open to the public, and have educated more than 16,000 students, sharing stories of justice, freedom, and human rights.

City of New Haven Annual 4th of July Fireworks (2023)

What better to spotlight for the month of July than the light itself? Celebrate the 4th of July with us at the City of New Haven’s Annual Fireworks show. Taking place on Tuesday, July 4th from 9 PM to 9:30 PM at Wilbur Cross High School, the annual firework show will welcome visitors and locals alike to light up the sky in a patriotic display. Pro tip: leave your lawn chairs at home, only blankets are allowed on the new turf!
