New Haven is a hub for innovation, industry, and pizza. More than that, it’s a deeply global city. The city’s restaurants, neighborhoods, small businesses, and cultural institutions reflect stories that span continents, and this month, we have the opportunity to celebrate them. Returning Saturday, September 19 from 1–4 p.m., the World Refugee & Immigrant Festival brings those cultures and traditions together in one place.
For one afternoon at Dixwell Community House (Q House), the free festival offers a journey around the world. Sample cuisines from across the globe, experience music and dance performances, browse artisan vendors, listen to personal stories of resilience, and take part in family-friendly activities like henna and interactive cultural demonstrations. Every performance, dish, and conversation offers a window into the traditions that refugee and immigrant communities have brought to Connecticut.
The festival itself is a testament to collaboration, bringing together community organizations, artists, advocates, volunteers, and cultural leaders. It celebrates not only where people come from, but what they continue to contribute to New Haven’s economy, neighborhoods, creativity, and civic life.
