Don’t let the name fool you. Between Bread may sound like a sandwich shop, but the new Chapel Street restaurant has bigger plans for your lunch break, dinner date and everything in between.
Behind the concept are Danielle Ginnetti, known to New Haven diners from Meat & Co., and Linda Minichino. Together, they’re creating a space that moves from sandwiches and small plates to cocktails and dinner.
We caught up with the duo to find out how the partnership came together, what’s on the menu and why Between Bread is worth a closer look.
How did the idea for Between Bread come together, and why Chapel Street?
“We had the idea for delicious sandwiches, wine, beer and cocktails together in a beautiful space. When we saw that the old Copper Kitchen space was available, we were excited to bring our concept there.”
The name says Between Bread, but the menu goes beyond sandwiches. What’s the thinking behind the food?
“We approach sandwiches like curated dishes on a menu, using fresh, local ingredients and cooking everything to order. Really delicious sandwiches and sides that work for lunch, dinner or anytime.”
What kind of place do you want Between Bread to be?
“We hope guests love the atmosphere we’ve created and enjoy terrific food and drinks at a price point that makes them smile. A place to meet friends or bring a book and enjoy on your own.”
What’s your recommendation for someone visiting for the first time?
“The Psychology & The Good Life, our take on a Reuben sandwich. The all-day sauce and braised red cabbage make it so special and yummy. I also love that you can enjoy a cocktail or wine with any of our sandwiches.”
What’s one detail at Between Bread that has a story behind it?
“We wanted to pay homage to the Copper Kitchen, so we have two copper B’s when you walk in and a sandwich called the Copper Kitchen, a bacon, egg and cheese, of course! We also love our pelican, which has become our mascot.”
