When your city is famous for apizza, throwing a pizza festival is expected. Trying to set another world record? That, like a charred crust, is much more New Haven-style. The annual Apizza Feast returns on September 25, in conjunction with the New Haven Grand Prix. Expect legendary pizzerias, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and enough slices to keep even the biggest pizza purists happy.
This year, organizers are once again going for a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title, gathering thousands of pizza lovers, this time in costume. It’s a fitting tribute to the city that turned a coal-fired neighborhood staple into an internationally recognized dish.
Expect a who’s who of New Haven’s iconic apizza makers alongside local restaurants serving slices, specialties, and creative takes on the city’s most famous export. Last year, the festival drew more than 50 vendors, including Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, Sally’s Apizza, and Zuppardi’s Apizza. This year, more than 70 food, beverage, craft, community, and pizza vendors are expected.
So go ahead, dress yourself, then your slice with parm and red pepper flakes. But please, never ranch dressing.
Tickets to participate in the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ attempt are $25 for adults and $20 for children and include a commemorative pizza-slice costume that’s yours to keep. Participants are encouraged to arrive beginning at 4 p.m. to check in, pick up their costumes, and be ready for the official attempt from 6–7 p.m. Space is limited to 5,000 participants, so reserve your spot early here.
