Focus On: The International Festival of Arts & Ideas

Each summer, the International Festival of Arts & Ideas returns to New Haven, bringing with it blossoming creativity, flourishing ideas, and blooming cultural connections. The festival transforms the city into a vibrant canvas of artistic expression, thought-provoking discussion, and tantalizing flavors of cultural exploration. There is still time to experience the festival this month, so join us and leave inspired.

The International Festival of Arts and Ideas was founded on the idea that great art and big ideas can heighten our ability to understand and imagine – and they don’t just talk the talk, they walk the walk. Returning for its 28th year, the festival has evolved through time from a small community gathering to a globally acclaimed event. Each year, the festival brings together influential artists, performers, and thinkers worldwide to share their unique perspectives. The festival showcases a range of art forms and performances, from breathtaking theater productions to mesmerizing dance performances, soul-stirring music concerts, to gripping visual art installations. There is something for everyone at the International Festival of Arts & Ideas.

For The Culturally Curious

This summer, experience “Elements of Abundance: Fashion Essentials and Royal Couture,” a carefully curated fashion show that celebrates the diverse fashion traditions of Ghana, transporting through the opulent wardrobes of the country’s citizenry and royalty. As models take the runway, spectators will be treated to an exceptional performance by SĀHGE Academy’s Contemporary African Dance Class.

For The Intellectuals

Beyond the captivating performances, the festival presents thought-provoking discussions and talks led by renowned speakers, scholars, and experts. These engaging sessions cover various topics, stimulating intellectual curiosity and inviting attendees to challenge established perspectives. By encouraging open dialogue and exploration of new ideas, the festival becomes a catalyst for personal growth and intellectual discovery. One of the highly anticipated keynote sessions at the festival is a talk from Baratunde Thurston, a New York Times best-selling author, Emmy-nominated storyteller, and television and podcast host. Renowned for his engaging and thought-provoking TED talks, Baratunde brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to the festival with his perspectives on the current state of our nation and the potential for its future are bound to inspire and challenge attendees.
