Catch a game at the Yale Bowl this fall, where the Bulldogs have five home games on the schedule.

The Yale Bowl is worth seeing even if you’re not a college football fan. Opened in 1914, the stadium was modeled after the ancient Amphitheater of Pompeii, with the playing field and seating built into the ground rather than surrounded by a traditional stadium structure. Its design would later influence other stadiums across the country.

New Haven also played an important role in the development of American football. Walter Camp attended Yale and later coached here, helping introduce many of the rules that shaped the game as it is played today.  There’s plenty more to Yale football’s New Haven story, from the history of the Bowl to one of college football’s oldest rivalries. Read “Calling All Bulldogs! A Guide to Yale’s Football Culture” for a deeper dive.

This fall, Yale plays at home:

October 3: Merrimack

October 10: Dartmouth

October 17: Rhode Island

November 7: Brown

November 14: Princeton

Before kickoff, explore nearby Westville, where you can grab breakfast or lunch and check out the neighborhood’s independent shops and galleries before making your way to the Yale Bowl for the game.
